Prayer and the Great Awakening
Jonathan Edwards wrote his resolutions 19 years before the famous out break during the Great Awakening. The sermon "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" was preached on July 8, 1741. On July 30,1722 he wrote, "Resolved, that I will do whatsoever I think to be most to the glory of God." On July 23, 1723 Edwards wrote, "Resolved, when I find those "groanings which cannot be uttered," (Rom.8:26-27) of which the apostle speaks, and those the psalmist speaks (Psalm 119:20), that I will promote them to the utmost of my power; and I will not be weary of earnestly endeavouring to vent my desires, nor of the repetitions of such earnestness."
